Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Dayton, Ohio
Job Details

Required Experience
- Cardiac experience required
- Must have experience with CABG and valve post-op
- Must have some 1:5 ratio experience in Step-Down (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU); ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience
- Must have CABG experience
- 1.5 years of experience preferred, with some level 1 or 2 experience preferred
- Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
Skills and Competencies
- EPIC experience required
- Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS, ACLS, IV start, NIH & cardiac drip titration skills required; must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the High-Risk Respiratory Unit (HRRU) unless PAPR is offered/needed
- Targeted patient ratios: 1:4-6
Floating and Scheduling
- Traveler will be first to float at employer's discretion; may float in/out of specialty clusters including high-risk respiratory unit/COVID
- Floating locations may include main campus and nearby campuses within 10-15 miles
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts with notice (3 shifts for 13-week contracts)
- Travel nurses are not eligible for employer employee incentives
Unit Details
- 36-bed unit specializing in pre- and post-op open heart management including CABG, valve, mitral clip, TAVR, thoracotomy
- Lung cases including pneumothorax, hemothorax, chest tube, zephyr valve
- Advanced care cardiac patients with continuous telemetry
- Navy blue scrubs required
Certifications and Licenses Required
- Ohio RN license (primary source verification required)
- BLS (AHA only)
- ACLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) but not specified as mandatory for this role
Competency Exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start or must complete within 72 hours of signing contract (3 attempts max, 80% passing score)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 2 years of start
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 2 years prior to start
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 years, indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date; must include marijuana panel; random drug screening during orientation week may be required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required
- Fingerprinting not required unless working with infants, children, elderly, pharmacy techs, or pain management clinics
Documentation Required
- Current resume/application
- Two professional references within 2 years (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date
- Various accounting and facility-specific documents including I-9, government-issued photo ID, E-Verify, candidate agreement, and health questionnaires
This position is ideal for RNs with cardiac and CABG experience who have worked in step-down or progressive care units and are comfortable with floating and working in a fast-paced cardiac care environment. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
