Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: 23-bed Cardiac ICU (Cardiac Stepdown Unit, PICU, CVPICU training available)
  • Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts, every other weekend required
  • Float: Required to float between cardiac stepdown unit and PICU
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Patient Population: Complex heart patients, VAD patients, heart transplant program
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (highest requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First Time Travelers accepted)
  • Licensure: Must have Indiana RN license (IN, compact, or IN temporary) at start
  • Locals: Not accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended/required depending on unit
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) as applicable
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within required timeframes
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Unit competency exam
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually

Additional Notes

  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RN’s to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
  • Mandatory IU Health-specific orientation modules and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start.
  • On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved in advance if required.
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and certifications timely to maintain eligibility.
