Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Telemetry Overflow

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) – Overflow
  • Start Date: Next applicable orientation date (3-4 weeks out)

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience:
    • Minimum 18 months in telemetry/acute care required
    • 2 years preferred
    • Must have PCU or Cardiac Telemetry experience (must be reflected in work history)
    • Experience with vasoactive drips and stroke patients required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)

Certifications Required

  • Must have at time of submission:
    • BLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
    • ACLS (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • Must obtain prior to start:
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) but not specified for this role

Work Schedule & Floating

  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 36 hours for 3x12-hour shifts
    • 40 hours for 8 or 10-hour shifts
  • Floating: Yes, will float within scope to all 3 hospitals within 20 miles
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, locals receive same rate
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes

Facility & Compliance Requirements

  • Smoke-Free Facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10-panel drug screen plus nicotine test required)
  • Time-Sensitive Modules: Must be prioritized and completed before start
  • RTO (Requested Time Off): Must be included at time of submission; late additions likely not approved

Onboarding & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Fingerprinting:
    • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start
    • Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 6 months of start
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
    • Required immunizations/vaccinations: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen plus nicotine test within 1 year
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
    • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption required
  • References:
    • 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Licensure:
    • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
  • Competency Testing:
    • Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) during orientation for RNs
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Online Modules:
    • Must be completed by due date prior to start via facility onboarding system
    • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be skipped or done on a phone

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be aware of and comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance requirements.
  • Floating to multiple hospital locations within 20 miles is expected.
  • This is a teaching hospital environment with a focus on acute care telemetry patients.

This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and acute care experience, comfortable with vasoactive drips and stroke patient care, who are ready to work in a fast-paced, multi-hospital setting.
