Description

ICU RN Opportunity - Martinsburg, West Virginia

Specialty

  • ICU (MICU/SICU/Neuro)
  • Unit size: 20 beds (average daily census 16-17)
  • Common patient types: post cath lab, balloon pumps (usually for permanent staff but considered for experienced travelers), thoracic surgery consults bi-monthly, no open heart surgeries, no CRRT
  • Patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:3 in Stepdown

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Certifications

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS
  • PALS preferred
  • TNCC preferred

Experience

  • Specialty years of experience: 20 years (as indicated by specialty "ICU - 20")
  • No explicit mention of prior travel experience required

Work Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights; Sat/Sun days)
  • Holiday scheduling minimized for travelers when possible

Orientation

  • 1st day: general hospital orientation
  • 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor

Work Environment & Equipment

  • EMR: EPIC
  • Ventilators: Servo & Hamilton (managed by RTs; RNs may silence alarms after notifying RT)
  • IV pumps: Braun IV pumps for typical drips including moderate conscious sedation
  • Telemetry: Phillips Cardiac Monitors, central monitoring station
  • No IV team; RTs and pharmacy available 24/7 on unit
  • Charge Nurse available 24/7, acts as free charge nurse but may take patient if needed
  • Nurse aides and students present for support and observation but not counted in staffing

Additional Information

  • COVID vaccine required (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J); medical/religious exemptions require approval
  • Scrub color: Navy blue scrubs, navy or white jacket, white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required; tattoos must be covered if distasteful
  • Floating: Travelers typically do not float outside ICU unless assigned to float pool
  • Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from facility
  • Background checks must be disclosed at submission

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a high-acuity environment and working in a structured, supportive team with a focus on critical care patients.
