Registered Nurse (Ortho/Neuro/Trauma) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: South Bend, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Ortho / Neuro / Trauma
• Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: No
• Patient Ratio: 1:6 on night shift
• Floating: Required within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Schedule: Considered per contract
• Locals Accepted: No, travelers must live at least 50 miles away
• Pending License: Accepted if active by start date
• RTO Restrictions: Considered per contract
• Guaranteed Hours: As per traveler agreement

Experience & Certifications

• Required Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty (Ortho/Neuro/Trauma)
• First-time Travelers: Accepted
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• Preferred Certifications:

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
  • Previous Ortho-Neuro-Trauma experience

Special Requirements

• Experience with orthopedic, trauma, and neurosurgical patients is essential

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: Required within 90 days of start; must cover last 7 years and all states lived/worked in
• Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts)
• Physical Exam: Required
• TB Testing: Negative 2-step PPD or Qgold within 1 year; T-Spots not accepted
• Immunizations:

  • Rubeola (Measles): Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
  • Mumps: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
  • Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination
  • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines; booster if low titer
• Drug Testing: Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
• Flu Vaccination: Required for flu season (Oct-May) or approved medical/religious exemption prior to start
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Medical and religious exemptions considered with proper documentation
• Facility Specific Documents:

  • Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
  • Photo for badge (passport style, .jpeg)
  • Agency Resource Guide review and acknowledgment
  • Completion of required modules prior to start (8-10 hours, paid)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete all required modules by 1 PM CST Friday prior to start
• Returning candidates within 1 year may be exempt from new modules
• On-site EKG exam and cardiac rhythm review required for Monitor Techs (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of orthopedic, neuro, or trauma experience who is comfortable working night shifts in a Level II trauma center and is open to floating as needed. First-time travelers are welcome, and the facility supports block scheduling considerations.
