Job Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
- First Timers Accepted: Yes, if they have Level I Trauma experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Licensing:
- Must have Indiana RN license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license prior to start
- Call Requirements:
- Approximately 100 hours per 6 weeks
- 1 call weekend per 6 weeks (Friday evening to Monday morning)
- Shift Details:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)
- Float Requirements: Yes, must float to other OR specialties
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrub Experience: Required; must be comfortable scrubbing and rate 3/4s in scrubbing CV/PV/Heart and Lung transplant cases
- Special Clinical Experience: Heart & lung transplants, aortic dissections, ECMO
- Local Candidates: Accepted
Additional Notes
- Indiana RN travel restrictions effective 11/30/24 do not apply to Periop/OR RN travelers.
- Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS specialties.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks, national sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education Verification: Required, may be pending at start but must be obtained.
- Certifications:
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable per unit.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA).
- State License verification within 30 days before start.
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology test, color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent), unit competency exam.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved).
- Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred), Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (all require positive titer or 2 vaccines, no declinations accepted), Hepatitis B series or declination.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
- History & References:
- Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years.
- Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist within 12 months, completed annually.
- Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of mandatory IU Health modules (22 total) required prior to orientation.
- Self-study orientation and tests must be completed before start date.
- Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed.
This position is ideal for RNs with cardiovascular OR experience, comfortable with scrubbing in complex transplant surgeries, and able to meet the call and float requirements.
