Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: West Islip, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse (ED/Admissions Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 4x12-hour shifts and 3x12-hour shifts
  • Patient Ratios: Up to 1:8 (candidates must be comfortable with this ratio)
  • Facility Type: 437-bed teaching hospital
  • Uniform: Scrubs (all white, all navy, or a combination); Croc-type shoes with holes are not allowed
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Preferred but not mandatory
  • First-time travelers accepted; locals accepted

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with a permanent license
  • Prior travel experience not required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, required for all ER RN positions

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a minimum score of 80%

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam using facility-specific form, completed by a physician within 30 days prior to start
  • Fit test for N95 mask (Halyard Fluidshield or 3M 1860) within 12 months prior to start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year prior to start
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required (October 1 - April 30), with exemptions considered case-by-case
  • Preferred: COVID-19 vaccination series
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen required within 30 days prior to start (no rapid tests)

Background and Documentation

  • 7-year background check including multiple federal and state databases, completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually
  • State license verification required within 30 days of start; license issues will result in automatic cancellation
  • Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and current address required
  • Education verification: diploma or transcript acceptable
  • 2 clinical references required (supervisor level or above, charge RNs acceptable)
  • Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps; must include at least 1 year of specialty experience or comparable/higher acuity experience
  • Skills checklist current within the last year and applicable to the position

Additional Notes

  • This position is for the Emergency Department/Admissions Unit
  • Candidates must be pre-closed before start
  • All documentation and compliance requirements must be met prior to start date
