Job Description

• Position in a very busy Emergency Department (ED) Overflow unit
• High patient ratios; candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Shift options: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts (indicate preference upon submission)
• Schedule includes every other weekend and floating is required
• No specific shift requests will be approved
• Time off limited to 5 days or less; may be redirected if more time off is requested

Requirements

• New York State RN License in hand
• Minimum 1 year of MS/Telemetry RN experience (highest required experience)
• Must be comfortable with high patient ratios and ED overflow environment

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, required for all ER RN positions
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, required for all RN positions
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, required for ER
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to specific unit requirements)

Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a minimum score of 80%

Background and Compliance

• 7-year background check required within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Includes SS Trace, County search, National Sex Offender, National Criminal, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, OMIG (NY Medicaid exclusions), OIG, and SAM checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification via diploma or transcript acceptable
• State license verification required within 30 days of start (no license hits accepted)

Health and Safety Requirements

• Facility-specific physical exam form required, completed by a physician within 30 days of start
• Fit test for N95 mask (Halyard Fluidshield or 3M 1860) within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
  • Varicella
• Standard 9-panel drug screen required within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination required (October 1 - April 30), declinations allowed for religious or medical reasons
• COVID vaccine series preferred

Documentation and History

• 2 clinical references required (supervisor level or above; Charge RNs acceptable)
• Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps
• Skills checklist current within the last year and applicable to the position
• New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check updated annually

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

This role is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of MS/Telemetry experience who are comfortable working in a busy ED overflow setting and can commit to an 8-week travel contract with floating and weekend shifts.
