Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist with strong experience in orthopedic surgical procedures as well as general surgery. The role requires working at both the main hospital surgery center and an outpatient surgery center located across the street.


Required Certifications and Experience

  • Certification:
    • BLS (AHA) required
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year of experience in surgical technology
    • Must have skills in orthopedic surgical procedures and basic general surgery procedures
  • Prior Travel Experience:
    • Not explicitly required

Clinical Experience and Skills

  • Orthopedic procedures including but not limited to:
    • Knee and Hip Arthroplasties
    • Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopies
    • Open reduction internal fixation of all bones
    • Hip Nailing procedures
    • ACL repairs
    • Carpal Tunnel Releases
    • Tendon repairs
  • General surgery procedures including:
    • OB/GYN
    • Urology
    • ENT
    • Plastics
  • Ability to float between the main hospital surgery center and outpatient surgery center

Work Environment and Schedule

  • OR Facilities:
    • 12 ORs at main hospital
    • 6 ORs at outpatient surgery center
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1 nurse to patient ratio
  • Shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Call Requirements:
    • Call once every week (3:30 PM – 7:00 AM next day)
    • One weekend call shift every 4 weeks
  • Dress Code: Scrubs provided (Ceil Blue)

Orientation and Training

  • One-week orientation with a preceptor
  • Exposure to multiple surgical specialties: Cardiovascular, Neurosurgery, General, Orthopedics, Plastics, OB/GYN, Robotic, ENT, and Urology
  • Preference cards for surgical procedures are thorough and up to date
  • Close collaboration with vendors during orthopedic procedures

Additional Notes

  • Clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
  • Local travelers with permanent addresses within 80 miles are not accepted
  • Must disclose if previously worked at the facility with at least a 6-month gap before reapplying
