Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Unit

Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit (Level 2 North)
• Diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke care
• Fast-paced, challenging environment suitable for both graduate and experienced nurses
• Patient-centered care focused on safety and quality outcomes
• Active Unit Based Council promoting teamwork and a positive work environment
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration using clinical pathways and patient education

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on comprehensive patient assessments
• Maintain clinical expertise and pursue lifelong learning through certification and education
• Demonstrate leadership by sharing knowledge and serving as a clinical resource
• Communicate effectively using SBAR and interdisciplinary methods
• Manage time efficiently and support team productivity
• Perform duties aligned with competency-based objectives

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience required
• Travel Experience: Travel experience highly preferred (not explicitly required, but strongly favored)
• Licensure: Active Michigan RN license required; verification through LARA and Nursys needed
• Certifications: BLS (AHA) certification required
• Skills Checklist: Must have a skills checklist completed within the last year for RN specialties
• Shift Understanding: Agencies must verify in writing that the nurse understands the assigned shift
• References: Not required
• Employment Restriction: Full-time employees of the facility are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment

Attendance Policy

• Strict 3-strike attendance policy effective 6/1/2024
• Termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late for scheduled shifts, unless excused for valid medical reasons with documentation

Additional Notes

• Physical copies of certifications only required if specifically listed
• Local traveler policy applies: those living within 35 miles considered local travelers
