Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Dialysis RN)

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Dialysis Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (07:00 - 17:30) plus 2 out of 3 overnight calls
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend; on-call every third Saturday until Monday 07:00 (1 hour response time for emergent cases only)
  • Average Daily Census: 3-6 patients in a 2 room, 4 bed unit
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • On-call: Yes, required as needed
  • Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License: Active Illinois RN license required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred

Required Experience & Skills

  • Work Setting: Acute Care Inpatient Dialysis
  • Patient Care Experience:
    • Acute renal failure
    • Acute Kidney Injury
    • Hemodialysis
    • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Dialysis Treatment Skills:
    • Administration of blood/blood products during treatment
    • Administration of Mannitol, albumin, 23.4% NaCl
    • Blood flow rates (Qb), Dialysate flow rate (Qd)
    • Managing peritoneal catheter and vascular access malfunctions
    • Venous pressure monitoring
  • Equipment Skills:
    • B. Braun Dialog dialysis machine
  • Dialysis Treatment Setup:
    • Ability to cannulate AV graft and AV fistula
    • Manage tunneled and non-tunneled catheters
    • Troubleshoot machine alarms (arterial pressure, blood leak detector, conductivity, venous pressure)
  • Post Dialysis Care:
    • Post-treatment access care
  • Professional Knowledge:
    • Airway management
    • Blood glucose monitoring
    • Infection control
  • Symptom Management:
    • Air emboli, cardiac arrest, chest pain
    • Clotted access/poor blood flow rate
    • Disequilibrium syndrome, filter blood leak
    • Fluid overload, hyperkalemia, hypotension
    • Muscle cramps, pyrogenic reaction, seizures

Preferred Experience

  • Cerner electronic health record system
  • Teaching hospital experience
  • Community hospital experience
  • Trauma Level I & II experience

Additional Requirements

  • Response to call within 1 hour for emergent cases
  • Ability to work a block schedule (discuss with manager)
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification (degree/transcript)
  • State and federal criminal background checks
  • Illinois-specific registry and offender searches
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
  • Fit mask test (3M1860, 1870, or 1870+) required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required prior to start
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Dialysis RN with a minimum of 1 year of dialysis experience. The role requires working 4 ten-hour shifts with on-call responsibilities every third weekend. Candidates must have an active Illinois RN license and meet all certification and compliance requirements. Experience with acute inpatient dialysis, specific dialysis machines, and symptom management is essential. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
