Position Details

Job Description
- NICU RN position on a Special Care Nursery Level II unit.
- Responsibilities include consistent monitoring and maintaining stability of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal functions.
- Assist with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation of newborns 32 weeks or greater.
- Initiate, modify, or stop treatment according to established protocols or orders.
- Float to Postpartum and Labor and Delivery units for neonatal care.
- Work schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of NICU II experience required.
- CPAP experience required.
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers with NICU experience are accepted.
Certifications & Licenses Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC certified.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- STABLE certification.
- State nursing license verification required prior to start.
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, EFM).
Competencies & Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher within 3 years of start).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (specific to NICU and other critical care units).
- Color Blind Testing (online or in-person).
- Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher within 3 years of start).
Health & Background Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last year; annual updates required.
- Immunization documentation required for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap.
- Drug screening within 90 days of start; updated annually.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including multi-state searches.
- Education verification and employment history verification required (minimum 2 years experience in past 7 years).
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start.
- Annual acknowledgment of safety manual.
- Various attestations and documentation required upon hire (I9/E-Verify, drug screen, background check).
This position is ideal for NICU RNs with solid Level II NICU experience looking for a 13-week travel contract in Maryland. Prior travel experience is not mandatory, making it accessible for first-time travel nurses with the required NICU background.
