Registered Nurse - Med Surg Float Position
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Float position covering Medicine Surgical patients including:
- Urology
- Orthopedics
- Neurology
- Family Medicine
- Surgical short stay
- Medical short stay
- Medicine oncology
- Medicine pulmonary
- Medicine GI
- Ratios:
- 1:3 on day shifts
- 1:4 on nights and weekends
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 8 weeks)
- No call required
- EPIC experience required
- 1st time travelers accepted only if they have previously floated in med/surg
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg specialty
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted)
- ACLS (AHA only, as applicable)
- PALS (AHA only, required only for certain pediatric units)
- NRP (as applicable)
- State License verification and NURSYS verification required
Compliance & Documentation
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required and must be updated annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, must have clear chest X-ray from past 5 years and complete annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination required year-round with strict deadlines; no exemptions allowed
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific orientation paperwork within 3 weeks of start
- Two recent professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication competency on arrival for certain units
- Various facility-specific agreements and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start
Notes
- This is a float position requiring flexibility across multiple med/surg units
- Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail competency testing and strict compliance with immunization and documentation policies
- Weekend availability every other weekend is mandatory
