Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: West Islip, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility Overview

  • 437-bed teaching hospital
  • Part of a larger health system

Work Schedule

  • 4x12 hour shifts preferred (also 3x12 available)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Permanent nursing license required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Locals within 75 miles accepted

Licensure & Certifications

  • New York State RN license in hand
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Patient Ratios

  • Ratios can be up to 1:8; candidates must be comfortable with this

Uniform

  • Scrubs required: all white, all navy, or a combination of both
  • Croc-type shoes with holes are not allowed

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required; first-time travelers accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and address
  • 7-year background check completed within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Various federal and state background checks including National Sex Offender, Criminal, Medicaid Exclusion List, and others
  • Education verification via diploma or transcript
  • State license verification within 30 days of start (no license hits accepted)
  • Physical exam using facility-specific form completed within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test (N95) completed within 12 months prior to start, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen completed within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required (with exemptions considered)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% score
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with minimum 80% score (may be required depending on unit)

References & Employment History

  • Two clinical references required (supervisor level or above)
  • Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps
  • At least 1 year of experience in specialty or comparable/higher acuity

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be comfortable with patient ratios up to 1:8
  • Physical exam and drug testing cannot be completed onsite; must be done prior to start
  • All documentation must be current and compliant with facility and state requirements
