Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical/Surgical Nursing with focus on Urology/Nephrology
  • Shift: 4x12 or 3x12 Night shifts (1845-0715)
  • Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Charge Nurse: Will work charge as needed
  • Floating: May float within scope to other Medical Surgical units
  • Block Scheduling: Will try to accommodate but not guaranteed
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • On-call: Not required
  • Guaranteed Hours: Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in medical/surgical nursing required
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years Med/Surg experience
  • Licensure: Active Illinois RN license required or in application process
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
  • Active Illinois RN license verification and NURSYS verification required

Required Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Work Setting Experience: Medical/Surgical and Telemetry
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry remote monitoring, Rapid Response Team experience
  • Genitourinary/Renal Skills: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starts
  • Medication Skills: Heparin administration
  • Respiratory Care: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen tank
  • Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
  • Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification (degree or transcript)
  • Competency exam for clinical candidates
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
  • Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
  • State-specific criminal and offender registry searches as required by Illinois regulations
  • Badge photo and code of conduct acknowledgment

Notes

  • Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for candidates without an IL license
  • Some state-specific background checks and registries are required within 30 days of start
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance requirements

This position is suitable for experienced Med/Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in Urology/Nephrology, comfortable working night shifts, and able to meet the documentation and licensure requirements for Illinois. First-time travel nurses with solid Med/Surg experience are welcome to apply.
