Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Day/Evening rotating nurse position with a combination of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week.
  • Shift options include:
    • 06:30 - 17:00
    • 06:30 - 19:00
    • 10:30 - 20:30
  • Schedule may include:
    • Four 10-hour shifts (4x10s)
    • Five 8-hour shifts (5x8s)
    • Two 8-hour shifts and two 12-hour shifts (2x8s + 2x12s)
  • Call as needed, typically scheduled in 2-3/4-week periods, including evening, night, and weekend shifts.
  • Weekend work as needed; not guaranteed 4 consecutive 10-hour shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required.
  • BCLS certification required.
  • Required skills: experience with circulating and scrubbing.
  • EPIC electronic medical record system experience required.
  • Preferred experience in neuro, thoracic, ENT, ortho, general, plastics, urology, GU/GYN, free flaps, robotics (Da-Vinci), and oncology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care on a day/evening rotating schedule.
  • Assist with circulating and scrubbing as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using EPIC.
  • Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified (required for certain units).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units.
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Certification required for applicable units.
  • State Nursing License verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RNs.
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start).
  • Unit-specific Competency Exams.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed).
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Required annually.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending.
  • Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code (3701.881). Must be completed within 1 year of start.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form required.
  • Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment required.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B - Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination.
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31). Mask required if declining.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week is mandatory.
  • Schedule flexibility is required due to rotating shifts and call responsibilities.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable with oncology and surgical specialties, who are flexible with rotating shifts and call duties, and meet the comprehensive certification, background, and health requirements.
