Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), unit assignment based on facility need after clinical evaluation
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
• Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
• Floating: All travelers expected to float within their acuity level as needed
• Electronic Health Record: EPIC experience required

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI)

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse with PCU experience
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but expect at least standard RN experience for PCU roles (default to higher if conflicting info arises)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Licensure & Verification

• Valid State RN License with primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start

Background & Compliance

• 7-year background check required within 1 year of start (not required annually unless there is a 30+ day break between assignments)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
• Education verification of highest earned degree required (transcript/diploma required for PCU)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
• Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination form required

Documentation & Orientation

• I9 or attestation required
• Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
• Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
• Photo for badge required (professional, plain background)
• Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
• Carilion-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed within 48 hours of signing

• 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)

• Annual skills checklist update required
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable

This position offers a flexible contract length between 14 to 26 weeks upon request, with a standard 26-week assignment available.
