Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), unit assignment based on facility need after clinical evaluation
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
- Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
- Floating: All travelers expected to float within their acuity level as needed
- Electronic Health Record: EPIC experience required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with PCU experience
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but expect at least standard RN experience for PCU roles (default to higher if conflicting info arises)

Licensure & Verification
- Valid State RN License with primary source verification within 30 days of start

- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination form required
Documentation & Orientation
- I9 or attestation required
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
- Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
- Photo for badge required (professional, plain background)
- Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Carilion-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed within 48 hours of signing
Additional Requirements
- 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist update required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
This position offers a flexible contract length between 14 to 26 weeks upon request, with a standard 26-week assignment available.
