Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short Term, Acute Care

Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shifts: 36 or 48 hour shifts
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off 3 times during the assignment
- Schedule: Weekend shifts required as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
- Floating: Floating to Adult PCUs expected; optional floating to Pediatric ED, ED Holding, and Trauma based on staffing needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: Greater than 7 days off requires approval
- Overtime: OT after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years (will review 1.5 years if Level 1 Trauma experience is present)
- Level 1 Trauma Experience: Preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Strongly preferred but not required; candidates with 2+ years Level 1 experience may be considered without prior travel experience
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Patient Care & Ratios
- Unit: Emergency Department
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Patient Population: Approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding"
- Responsibilities: Medication administration including IV meds, documentation, and communication of clinical findings
Certifications Required Before Start
- Mandatory:
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have before submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance doc due date before start)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Licensure & Compliance
- License: New Mexico RN license (can be pending at time of submission)
- Driver’s License: Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless done within past 12 months)
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Work History Verification: Minimum 3 years of previous work experience verified
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire
Health & Safety Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form)
- Fit Mask: Required within 1 year of start; only specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- TB Testing: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or PPD within 1 year; additional requirements for past positive responders
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
- Drug Testing: Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Flu Vaccine: Required year-round with exemptions allowed for personal reasons (facility-specific form required)
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must meet or exceed passing score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required; must score 80% overall and 100% on Lethal Arrhythmia section; two attempts allowed
- Pass/Fail Testing: Includes EKG and medication exams; required for multiple units including Adult and Pediatric ED, PACU, ICU, Urgent Care, Dialysis, Endoscopy, Labor and Delivery, and others
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for Behavioral Health units and all RNs at MDC
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam: Required for specific units; remediation available if failed first attempt
Additional Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- No locals within 75 miles allowed to apply
- Increased number of admit holds currently in ED
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs
- Candidates must complete facility-specific compliance forms and training prior to start
