Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short Term, Acute Care

Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shift Length: 36 or 48 hour shifts
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off 3 times during the 13-week assignment
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed; weekend days = Saturday & Sunday, weekend nights = Friday, Saturday & Sunday
- On-call: Not required
- Floating:
- Floating to Pediatric ED is optional
- Floating to Adult PCUs is expected based on staffing needs
- Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE) as well
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
- Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: Greater than 7 days requires approval
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years (will review candidates with 1.5 years)
- Level 1 Trauma Experience: Preferred; candidates with 2+ years Level 1 experience may be considered even without prior travel experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Strongly preferred but not strictly required for candidates with sufficient Level 1 trauma experience
- First-timers: Accepted
Certifications Required Before Start
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Must have before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification - Can pend until compliance document due date before start
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ENPC, CPI, MOAB for Behavioral Health units)
Clinical & Job Details
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED) with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding"
- Medication Administration: Includes IV medication via the seven medication rights; documentation and communication of clinical findings required
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form signed by a provider for medical exemptions
- No RQI Certifications Accepted
- Increased Admit Holds: Currently experiencing increased number of admit holds in ED
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Education verification or diploma/transcript if third-party verification unavailable
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless done within past 12 months)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Drug testing negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Immunizations: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer required), Hepatitis B (declination, series, or titer), Flu vaccine required year-round (exceptions allowed with form)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% to pass)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required with minimum 80% overall and 100% on Lethal Arrhythmia section)
- Pass/Fail Testing: Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for multiple units including Adult and Pediatric ED
- Work History Verification: Minimum 3 years of previous work experience verified
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire
Additional Notes
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Location is not near public transportation; candidates must provide transportation plan if approval is needed
- Orientation includes fingerprinting and Cerner training attestation (Cerner test-out option available for experienced candidates)
- MOAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) certification required for Behavioral Health units and all RNs at MDC; can be obtained onsite if not held prior to start
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam candidates get two attempts before cancellation
- Facility does not accept locals within 75 miles radius
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with Level 1 trauma experience, who are comfortable with weekend shifts, floating within scope, and working in a Level I Trauma and teaching hospital environment.
