Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Aberdeen, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Days, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (5x8 hours)
Schedule: Block schedule, no weekends required
Holidays: Required as scheduled
Floating: Not required
On-call: Scheduled on-call not required

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Years of Experience Required: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: ASCP certification
• Preferred: BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Other certifications may be applicable depending on unit or specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP), but ASCP is mandatory.

Compliance & Background Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification for highest level of education
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Felonies within past 5 years are automatic decline; older felonies require review

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • TB (negative QGOLD/TSPOT or 2-step PPD) with annual updates
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (required during flu season)
• COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking

Documentation & Competencies

• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary)
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, badge photo, dress code review, OSHA questionnaire, and job description must be completed prior to start
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as applicable by profession

Additional Notes

• No weekend shifts required
• No floating or on-call duties scheduled
• Candidate must complete all required documentation and background checks prior to start date
• Start Date: January 26, 2026

This position is ideal for MLS professionals with at least 2 years of experience who are open to a 13-week travel contract with a consistent day shift schedule and no weekend or on-call requirements. First-time travelers are welcome.
