Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a Level I Trauma, Children's, Teaching, Short-term Acute Care hospital.
- Emergency Department setting with approximately 60%-80% admission rate; many rooms are ED Holding.
- Shifts: 36 or 48 hours.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5.
- Floating: Optional to Pediatric ED; expected to float to Adult PCUs, ED Holding, and Trauma as needed.
- Weekend work required as needed (Saturday, Sunday, and weekend nights including Friday).
- No local candidates within 75 miles accepted.
- COVID vaccination required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with documentation).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Level 1 Trauma experience preferred (will review candidates with 1.5 years).
- Prior travel experience is strongly preferred but not required if candidate has 2+ years Level 1 Trauma experience.
- First-time travelers accepted.
Licensure & Certifications
- New Mexico nursing license can be pending at time of submission.
- Required Certifications (must have before submission unless noted):
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required before submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance due date before start)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Other certifications that may be required or preferred depending on unit:
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) for Behavioral Health units
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for ED and related units (must score 80% overall and 100% on Lethal Arrhythmia section). Two attempts allowed.
Clinical & Facility Details
- Medication administration including IV medications following the seven medication rights.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Facility has no parking fees.
- Facility is a Level I Trauma center with 554 staffed beds.
- Orientation includes fingerprinting onsite during orientation (if not done within past 12 months).
- Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 1 year.
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted.
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted).
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications.
- No locals within 75 miles allowed.
- Travelers will be scheduled for weekends as needed.
- Floating to Adult PCUs is expected; floating to Pediatric ED is optional.
- COVID vaccination required with religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
- Must complete UNMH traveler compliance and orientation documents prior to start.
- Background checks include 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting.
- Work history verification of 3 years required.
- Two professional references within three years required.
- Orientation includes Cerner training attestation and safety manual acknowledgement.
- Overtime applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025.
