Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)


Job Details

  • Unit Details:
    • Weekend rotation (to be discussed during interview)
    • Call: Yes/variable (typically one weekday call every week and one weekend call every 5-6 weeks)
    • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Minimum Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Holiday Work:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work two of them
  • Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
  • Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling
  • Locals accepted at same rate

Required Experience

  • Specialty Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for many specialties including ER, PACU, Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, etc.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for RN’s in PACU, ER, and other pediatric-accepting areas
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required depending on specialty
    • State License (Georgia) – Must be current and verified within 30 days prior to start
    • NURSYS Verification – Annual verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Additional Certifications:
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – Online course required within a few months of hire (no renewal required)
    • NIH Stroke Certification – May be required depending on specialty
    • Tech Cert Verification – National certification verification if applicable

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs and LVNs by agency)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, ICU, ER, and related units)
  • General Competency Exam (required for Nursing and Allied by agency)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical Exam (within 1 year of start)
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start (results must be available before start)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months of start (two negative TB tests required for privileging specialties)
  • TB Questionnaire (required annually for all candidates)
  • Immunizations/Vaccinations:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer required
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer required
    • Hepatitis B Series or Surface Antibody Titer or Signed Declination (declination form required if titer negative)
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination (required for 2025-26 flu season)
  • Additional vaccination requirements and declination forms apply for privileging specialties

Documentation & Verification

  • Background Check (must be completed within 30 days of start) including education verification
  • Education Verification (degree verification required; can be pending at start with proof of processing)
  • Work History Verification (most recent employer verification required; can be pending at start with proof)
  • Skills Checklist (updated within 12 months)
  • References: 2 clinical references required by agency

Additional Notes

  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • Floating assignments within facility as needed
  • Clinical screening required to determine fit before final manager approval

This position offers a travel/contract opportunity for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience, accepting first-time travelers, with a comprehensive set of certification, competency, and health requirements to ensure compliance and readiness for the assignment.
