Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (54-bed cardiac unit)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (1900-0730)
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
Call Requirements: None
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Main Cardiac Telemetry unit
- Patients primarily on cardiac monitors, monitored remotely and on the unit
- Cardiac drips administered
- Patient diagnoses include heart failure, heart attack (STEMI and NSTEMI), stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain
- May take overflow medical patients if needed
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6, can go up to 1:7 during call-ins
- New travelers onboarded weekly to help reduce workload
Experience & Requirements
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year as a Registered Nurse (higher value confirmed)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Prior travel experience: Not required
- Locals: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, must be completed through BlueCloud
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (specific requirements apply)
- Drug screen: Negative 12-panel drug test within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start and documentation on file by 12/15 each year
- COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical or religious documentation
Additional Information
- Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- Facility requires completion of multiple pre-start modules (approx. 8-10 hours) prior to assignment start; paid for module completion
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, solid background)
