Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Munster, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (consecutive experience required)
- Required Indiana or Compact RN License
- BLS certification required
- Must pass on-site Pass/Fail EKG exam
Unit & Patient Information
- Unit: Intermediate Care North Unit (27-bed multidisciplinary, 24-hour unit)
- Patient population: Primarily adults over 12 years old, average age 65
- Common patient diagnoses: ESRD (CAPD or Hemodialysis), cardiac dysrhythmia, unstable angina, CAD, PVD, COPD, diabetes management, CHF, general surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring
- Patient ratio: 1:5
- Float required
- Weekend coverage: Every other weekend (6-12 weekend shifts per contract)
- Electronic documentation system: EPIC
Travel Experience
- First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
Certifications & Competencies Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA required, must be current or updated within 60 days of start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required, must be current or updated within 60 days of start
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification – required annually, must be current or updated within 60 days of start
- Pass/Fail Testing on EKG and Medication exams on first day of orientation (2 attempts allowed)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – annual requirement
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – advanced EKG exam required for this unit, must be completed within 72 hours of signing, 90% passing score required, annual update required
- Core Part I, II, III exams – must be completed prior to start and updated annually
- OSHA Mandatory training – must be completed prior to start and updated annually
- Color Blind Testing – required within 1 year of start (online acceptable)
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, clearance to work with no restrictions and free of communicable diseases
- Fit mask (N95) required prior to start; facial hair must comply with OSHA standards
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunity titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella with boosters or declinations as applicable
- 10-panel drug test within 3 weeks of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) or approved exemption
- COVID-19 vaccination required (2 doses Moderna/Pfizer or 1 dose J&J) with medical or religious exemptions accepted; declinations not accepted
- Background checks including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS L3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required prior to start
- Employment application, work history verification, and references required
Additional Job Details
- Candidates must complete unit-specific job description and competency exams prior to start
- Several study guides provided for medication administration, pediatric medication, EKG challenge, and Plum 360 to prepare for testing
- Pass/Fail competency exams on first day of orientation with remediation process available for EKG exam failures
- Weekend coverage and float requirements apply
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable working in a multidisciplinary intermediate care unit with a focus on cardiac and renal patient populations.
