Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift Hours: 7 PM - 7 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
- Charting System: EPIC experience required
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Locals Accepted: No RNs within 75 miles accepted (locals accepted for LPNs)
- Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
- ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
Required Clinical Skills
- Telemetry and Stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC)
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias; use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
- Manage cardiac drips (no titration), blood product administration
- Central and peripheral line care/management
- IV therapy/phlebotomy
- Isolation precautions
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
- Common patient diagnoses: Long-term pulmonary patients, ENT surgery, surgical procedures requiring step-down level care
- Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Color blind testing required (one-time)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- References (2 within 3 years) required for agency direct hires only
- Employment application and work history verification required
- Skills checklist required annually
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (not required annually)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
State-Specific Requirements (New York)
- NYS Nurse Aide Registry required within 3 months for certain care areas (LTC, Home Care, Hospice)
- Fingerprinting and disciplinary action search may be required for Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, and LTC units
- Sex Offender Registry search required within 30 days of start
- NY Medicaid Exclusion List check required within 3 months of start and run monthly
Additional Notes
- The client may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract without charges for canceled hours.
- Requests for time off or special scheduling must be submitted upon application.
This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and step-down care experience looking for a 13-week travel assignment in Rochester, NY, with night shifts and a requirement to float within the unit skillset. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are accepted.
