Position Details

Job Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
- First Timers Accepted: Yes, if they have Level I Trauma experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Scrub Experience: Must be comfortable scrubbing and rate 3/4s in scrubbing CV/PV/Heart and Lung transplant cases. Scrub experience is mandatory to be submitted.
- Call Requirements: Approximately 100 hours per 6 weeks; 1 call weekend per 6 weeks (Friday evening to Monday morning)
- Float Requirements: Yes, must float to other OR specialties
- License Requirements: Must have Indiana, compact, or Indiana temporary license prior to start
- Return to Office Restrictions: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Shift Details:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)
- Special Clinical Requirements: Experience with heart & lung transplants, aortic dissections, ECMO. Candidates without Level I Trauma experience will be screened.
Additional Notes
- Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers are exempt from the Indiana RN restriction effective 11/30/24.
- Locals accepted; Indiana residents receive a rate adjustment.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks, national sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Certifications:
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable.
- State license verification within 30 days before start.
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology test, color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent), unit competency exam.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators)
- Immunizations and titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- History & References:
- Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years
- Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually updated
- Facility Specific Documents: Completion of compliance checklists, confidentiality agreements, orientation packets, and other facility-required forms prior to start.
- Orientation: Mandatory completion of required modules (22 modules) prior to orientation for applicable roles.
Important Considerations
- Candidates must confirm comfort and proficiency with scrubbing in complex cardiovascular surgeries.
- Must be willing to float to other OR specialties.
- Call schedule includes weekend coverage approximately once every 6 weeks.
- Indiana license or compact license must be active and in hand before starting.
- Must be able to work major holidays as required.
- Flu vaccination is mandatory unless an approved exemption is provided.
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with at least 2 years of specialty experience, comfortable with advanced cardiovascular surgical procedures, and able to meet the licensing and certification requirements. First-time travelers are accepted if they have Level I Trauma experience.
