Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Easton, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: January 26, 2026
Shift: Monday-Friday, 5x8 hour shifts, alternating evening (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) and night (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) shifts. Flexibility to rotate shifts is preferred.
Weekends: Not required
Holidays: Required as scheduled
On-Call: Not required
Floating: May be required within the department

• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in the specialty
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • ASCP certification required
  • ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Identification: Government-issued photo ID required
• Background Checks:

  • 7-year criminal history check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • SSN trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC checks
  • Education verification
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Employment History:

  • Verification of at least 2 years hospital or equivalent acute care experience within last 5 years
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Physical & Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex screening)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements
  • Immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30-90 days of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask models required)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) strongly preferred
  • Other certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) as applicable per unit/job description
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (80%+ score) as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required
  • Age-specific competency exams required
• Facility Specific:

  • Photo for badge (passport style with solid background)
  • Signed confidentiality agreement and dress code review
  • Completion of orientation and facility policies review
  • Completion of TB risk assessment, access forms, and vaccination exemption forms if applicable

Orientation & Facility Policies

• Orientation typically held at 8 AM on Tuesdays at the facility’s School of Nursing.
• Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs or business casual during orientation; scrubs required on floor starting Thursday.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training assigned online prior to orientation and completed on-site during orientation.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Medical Laboratory Scientist with at least 2 years of experience. The position requires alternating evening and night shifts Monday through Friday, with no weekend or on-call duties. ASCP certification is required, and BLS is preferred. First-time travelers are welcome. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and competency exams are mandatory prior to start. Orientation and facility-specific documentation must be completed as part of the onboarding process.
