ICU RN Travel Assignment - Kearney, Nebraska

Position Overview

• Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Registered Nurse
• Location: Kearney, Nebraska
• Start: ASAP
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Facility Type: Hospital ICU with 10 beds (average daily census 5+)
• EMR System: EPIC

Required Certifications

• Current Nebraska or multi-state compact RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — required, but pediatric experience is highly preferred, not mandatory
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Experience & Skills

• Strong background in cardiac care
• Experience with balloon pumps and Impella pumps required
• Experience with invasive arterial line monitoring (simple arterial line transducing)
• Ability to float to PCU (Progressive Care Unit) and Med Surg as needed
• Comfortable working with adult ICU patients and pediatric patients under 8 years old; pediatric patients over 8 typically in PCU or Med Surg unless ICU level care is needed
• Common patient diagnoses include: open heart surgery, CHF, COPD, overdose, sepsis, CVAs with TPA, DKA, some neuro cases (no ICP monitoring yet), TeleStroke program patients

Work Schedule & Environment

• Shifts: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum 2 weekends per month (Saturday & Sunday), may increase based on unit needs
• Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday required
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 (lower acuity)
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedules based on unit needs
• Up to 2 mandatory overtime shifts every 6 weeks
• Scrub colors: Navy Blue, Black, or Charcoal Grey
• Floating: Nurses are first to float as needed

Additional Notes

• Great teamwork on the unit
• Pediatric experience preferred but not mandatory; PALS certification required
• Travelers must be flexible with scheduling and floating
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
