Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Float position on an Acuity Adaptable Unit with patient care levels ranging from Medical-Surgical (MS) to Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown/ICU.
- Patient ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on acuity and patient type.
- Unit is a boarding unit where patients come from the Emergency Department and are boarded until discharge or transfer to inpatient units. Patients are generally stable; unstable patients are moved out.
- RN must have PCU experience as floating to inpatient PCU units is required when no patients are on the boarding unit.
- Team nursing model is used, involving collaboration and delegation with LPNs. RN must be comfortable working in this environment.
- Unit size fluctuates between 4 beds and up to 8-10 beds depending on staffing and acuity. Staffing may include nurse/CNA or nurse/LPN combinations.
- Shift options: 3x12-hour shifts or 4x12-hour shifts.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Cerner experience is required.
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification.
- On-call is not required.
- Locals are not accepted.
- First-time travelers are NOT accepted.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Prior travel experience is required (first timers not accepted).
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
- Background checks including:
- 7-year SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM (within 30 days of start)
- HHS/OIG (within 30 days of start)
- Transcript/Diploma (official copy showing degree and graduation date).
- Education verification (may be pending at start but must be obtained).
- State RN license verification (within 30 days before start).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
- Unit competency exam.
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score).
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (approved respirators only).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Immunizations and titers:
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment within 2 years, must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above.
- Employment application covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start and annually updated.
Work Schedule & Hours
- 3x12-hour shifts = 36 hours/week
- 4x12-hour shifts = 48 hours/week
- Guaranteed hours: 8 and 10-hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week also available
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable with team nursing and delegation to LPNs.
- Must be able to float to PCU inpatient units as needed.
- Must work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- No on-call required.
- Locals are not accepted for this position.
- First-time travel nurses are not accepted; prior travel experience is required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with PCU background who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a dynamic, acuity-adaptable, team nursing environment.
