Med-Surg Nurse Opportunity
Location: Klamath Falls, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 2.5 years of nursing experience (first 6 months do not count)
- General surgery experience required
- Total joint experience preferred but not required
- ACLS and BLS certification required
- Must have EPIC experience
Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (no explicit requirement)
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Total joint replacements
- General surgeries
- Gynecological surgeries
- General medical patients including:
- CVA (stroke)
- Pneumonia (PNA)
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Alcohol-related conditions (ETOH)
- End of life care
- COVID-19
Unit Details
- Charge nurse role available; charge nurse takes patients at a lower ratio
- 24/7 hospital supervisor coverage
- Nurse aides present with ratios of 7-8 patients per aide
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes V60 vents, CPAPs, and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Central Monitoring Unit staffed with Monitor Techs 24/7; RNs read and verify cardiac strips
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 0545-1815 and 1730-0615
- Weekend requirement: typically every other weekend, depending on unit needs
- Holiday work required
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating not required but may be requested if skill set allows and RN agrees
Orientation & Other Information
- Unit-specific orientation required (1-2 shifts depending on experience and prior familiarity with the facility)
- Biweekly orientation sessions starting early January 2025
- Dress code: clean and professional, no specific scrub color
- Housing is very difficult for those with pets
Nursing Responsibilities
- RNs required to titrate insulin drips
- Common titratable drip: insulin
