Position Details

Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of strong transplant experience (Liver transplant experience is a hard requirement)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted if they meet experience criteria
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- Regulatory Charting for Transplants
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - AHA NRP only
- Other certifications may be required depending on the cost center (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)
Licensure
- Must have an Indiana RN license, temporary license, or compact license at the time of start
- Online verification of license required within 30 days before start date
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Call Requirement: Yes, 40-60 hours per 6-week period
- Float Requirement: Yes, multi-specialty including all surgeries
- Shift Options:
- 8 and 10-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
- 3 twelve-hour shifts totaling 36 hours per week
- 4 twelve-hour shifts totaling 48 hours per week
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Key Job Requirements
- Experience with liver transplant procedures is mandatory (hard stop)
- Must have experience performing recipient procedures involved in liver transplant
- Multi-specialty float required
Facility & Unit Information
- The unit focuses solely on abdominal transplants; pediatric transplants are not included
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: Free
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers required or strongly recommended:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Rubella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
- Tuberculosis testing within 1 year of start (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score
Background & Documentation
- Background check required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, criminal checks, sex offender registry, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Transcript or diploma (official copies) required; may be pending at start but must be obtained
- Education verification by third party; may be pending at start but must be obtained
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start and annually
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment, verified within 2 years
- Employment application current and complete with explanations for gaps over 30 days
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific orientation packets and compliance checklists required prior to start
- Mandatory completion of required training modules (22 modules) for certain roles, with strict deadlines before orientation
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
This position is ideal for experienced transplant RNs with strong liver transplant skills who are comfortable with multi-specialty float and call responsibilities. The role requires compliance with extensive health, background, and certification requirements to ensure readiness for this specialized acute care environment.
