Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required (First-timers are welcome)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Yes
• Orientation: Bi-weekly

Key Job Details

• Local candidates within 75 miles considered (local rate applies)
• Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
• Candidates must be able to float to other units as needed

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background checks including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list search (within 90 days of start)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols for positive history)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Flu vaccine (seasonal, mandatory for new candidates starting October-March)
  • Measles (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Mumps (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Rubella (1 vaccine or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
  • Polio vaccine or attestation
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
• Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
• Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)

Additional Requirements

• Competency exam specific to unit required
• Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge (except RRTs) during orientation
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
• Must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Notes

• Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous Duke assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
• Orientation includes completion of competency checklists within 3 weeks after start date
• Online modules must be completed prior to orientation start
• Flu vaccine documentation cannot be completed onsite; receipts are acceptable proof
