Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position is for a Registered Nurse with preference for PCICU experience. Candidates with NICU, Pediatric Stepdown, or Pediatric RN experience will also be considered.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
- Floating between units is expected.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
- Flu vaccination is mandatory with no exemptions or declinations accepted.
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Licensure: Must have a current North Carolina or Compact nursing license.
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required. First-time travelers are welcome.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
Additional certifications may be relevant depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, NRP), but BLS and PALS are mandatory.
Work Schedule & Other Details
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Floating: Yes, flexibility to float to other units as needed.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are also considered.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Required immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Polio.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for candidates starting during flu season (October through March).
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and sanction list searches required within 90 days of start.
- Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months, with at least one supervisor reference.
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation is bi-weekly and includes unit-specific competency exams.
- Candidates must complete required online modules prior to orientation.
- A guest account setup is required prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
Summary
This travel nursing role is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, preferably with PCICU or pediatric-related experience, who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts. Compliance with strict health, immunization, and background requirements is mandatory. First-time travel nurses and local candidates within 75 miles are encouraged to apply.
