Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Warrensville Heights, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Travel/contract Registered Nurse position at a major healthcare system in Ohio.
- Extension contract (do not submit new applications if currently assigned).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting in a similar area to the pending assignment.
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or American Red Cross; RQI acceptable. Must be current at start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for most clinical areas except CVOR, OR, Pediatric OR, Ambulatory Care, and Behavioral Health. Must be current at start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, and NICU.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required for ER.
- State Nursing License: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for multiple units; must be current.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR; not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts.
- Tech Certification: Required for CVOR and NBSTSA certifications as applicable.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Comprehensive background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, SSN trace, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, and education verification.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Education verification required for all candidates; international education requires CGFNS documentation if third-party verification is delayed.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PAPRs approved case-by-case.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documented
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted) during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
Onboarding and Training
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
- Pass/Fail EKG and Medication testing required onsite during orientation for bedside RNs (except OR). Retakes available after 1 week if needed.
- Unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Skills checklist required annually.
Employment History and References
- Employment application must include 3 years of prior work history, with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
State-Specific Requirements (Ohio)
- BCI and FBI fingerprint results and attestation required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Fingerprints must be completed under nursing code 4723.09.
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
Notes
- Candidates with gaps less than 40 days between assignments at this healthcare system may not need to update physical exams, eye exams, or chest X-rays if current.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment.
- Onsite fingerprinting and additional compliance checks are conducted by the facility.
This position requires a well-prepared candidate who meets strict clinical, certification, health, and compliance standards to ensure readiness for assignment at a leading healthcare institution.
