Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Float Pool)

Location: Portland, Maine


Position Details

  • Specialty: Float Pool (Medical, Surgical, Telemetry, Observation Unit, and Intermediate Care)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Schedule:
    • Approximately 4-week schedule cycle
    • Every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
    • Call may be required if census drops
    • Holiday shifts required and scheduled as needed

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years as an RN
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Patient Population & Ratios

  • Patient Types: Adults only
    Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, Stroke, IV drug abuse, Alcohol withdrawal, Cellulitis, Abdominal pain, MI, electrolyte imbalances, Diabetes, Post-op joints, Urological, Spinal, Vascular, General abdominal, GYN, Breast
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day: 1 RN to 4-5 patients
    • Night: 1 RN to 5-6 patients
    • Intermediate Care: 1 RN to 3 patients

Skills & Clinical Requirements

  • Cardiac drip management (Heparin, Diltiazem)
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • IV starts
  • Management of chest tubes
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Central line/PICC line care

Orientation

  • 1 shift of regulatory and equipment review with a tour
  • 1 shift orienting on a clinical unit

Unit Support & Resources

  • Charge RN available M-F days (free floating); weekends and nights take assignments
  • CNA staffing varies based on census
  • Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
  • Hospitalist coverage 24/7
  • Intensivist available for consult 24/7

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR: Cerner
  • Pyxis medication system
  • GE Monitors

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Any professional color; scrubs not provided
  • Free parking available

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with float pool skills and prior travel contract experience, comfortable managing a diverse adult patient population with complex medical needs in a telemetry setting.
