Job Opportunity: MedSurg Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Mullins, South Carolina
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
On-call: Not required
Floating: Yes, may need to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (MedSurg)
- Required Years of Experience: 1 year
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (see notes below)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required for all clinical staff
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable (check unit-specific requirements)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification as required
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
- Competency Exam required
Note: Certifications expiring within 30 days of start date are not accepted; candidates must renew prior to start or have a course scheduled.
Background & Verification Requirements
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace
- County, State, National Criminal checks
- Sex Offender Registry
- FACIS 3
- International searches required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification preferred; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (T-spot or Q-Gold accepted; 2-step PPD not accepted for this location)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titers require boosters
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records or declination form must be uploaded
Facility & Orientation Information
- Total staffed beds: 28 inpatient beds
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Free parking available
- Floating between like units/sister facilities may be required
- Block scheduling may be requested but not guaranteed
- Locals are not accepted for this position
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Orientation includes completion of OurDay modules (2-6 hours depending on location) prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
- Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start (e.g., Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, Job Description)
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit (not required for MedSurg)
- IV Therapy certification required only for select LPNs if applicable
- Candidates with international education may experience longer license processing times
- Walk-through (temporary) license process available for SC RN license under certain conditions
- All licensure and certification hits must be approved by facility prior to start
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, comfortable working night shifts with weekend and holiday rotations, and willing to float within similar units. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
