Description

Job Opportunity: MedSurg Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Mullins, South Carolina
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7 PM - 7 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Rotation: Yes
On-call: No
Floating: Yes, within scope to like units/sister facilities


Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Specialty: MedSurg Registered Nurse
  • Years of Experience Required: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (see Certifications section below)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (AHA or ARC only) required for all clinical staff
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable (check unit-specific requirements)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as required
  • NIH Stroke Certification as required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
  • Competency Exam required

Note: Certifications expiring within 30 days of start date are not accepted; candidates must renew prior to start or have a course scheduled.

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Total Staffed Beds: 28 inpatient beds
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free

Background & Verification Requirements

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Background check must include:
    • SSN Trace
    • County checks outside SC
    • SC Statewide check
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal check
    • FACIS 3
    • International searches required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification preferred; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (exceptions apply)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires boosters
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titer requires boosters
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (2-6 hours depending on location)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required
  • Signed assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request required prior to start
  • Job description and new employee screening assessment must be completed
  • Religious exemption form required if applicable
  • Physical assessment for sterile processing techs (if applicable)
  • Radiation badge required for certain departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology) but not for others (MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound)

Additional Notes

  • Approval for block scheduling can be requested but is not guaranteed
  • Travelers must float within scope as needed
  • Locals are not accepted for this assignment
  • All certifications and licenses must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
  • Travelers must upload all required health and vaccination documentation into the facility’s system

This position is ideal for a MedSurg RN with at least 1 year of experience, who is flexible with night shifts and weekend rotations, and is ready for a 6-week travel assignment in South Carolina.
