Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Observation Unit
- Unit Description:
- 10-bed observation unit for patients typically staying 24 to 48 hours
- Patient diagnoses vary (primarily medical, occasional surgical overflow)
- No medication drips administered
- Requires strong telemetry experience and ability to work autonomously
- Shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, night shift (10:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 10-bed unit (exact nurse-to-patient ratio unknown)
- Weekend Requirement: 2-3 weekends in 6 weeks (Saturday/Sunday)
- On-Call Requirement: Yes, 5-6 night shifts on-call in 6 weeks (10:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Floating: May float within Medical/Surgical Telemetry scope as needed
- Schedule Flexibility: Block scheduling accommodation TBD by unit needs
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License: Not accepted; license must be valid at time of submission
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 36 hours for 3 shifts (12 hours each)
- 48 hours for 4 shifts (12 hours each)
- 40 hours for shifts less than 12 hours
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 3 years (2 years required by facility, but 3 years required for first-time travelers)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted if 2-3 years experience plus Epic or Cerner experience
- Licensure: Massachusetts state nursing license required
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- Electronic Medical Record System: Cerner
Compliance & Documentation
- Background Checks:
- Standard 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry Search required for all travelers in MA
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- N95 fit test within last 6 months (specific approved masks required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (with medical exemption documentation if applicable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B immunity or signed declination (numerical titer required)
- Varicella immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine required annually (medical exemptions allowed with documentation; no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine required (medical or religious exemptions accepted with signed documentation; no declinations)
- Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (minimum 9-panel, instant acceptable; marijuana testing not required)
- Competency Exams:
- Age Specific Competency Exam required
- Medication/Pharmacology and general competency exams required by Aya Healthcare but not facility
- Facility Specific Documents:
- Badge photo (passport style, head and shoulders, plain background) required 2 weeks prior to start
- Compliance checklist, latex allergy questionnaire, personal information forms required prior to start
- COVID-19 exemption forms if applicable
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any color except jeans; OR/PACU scrubs provided; Case management business casual or scrubs
- Parking: Free in unrestricted spaces or lot across the street
- Magnet/Teaching/Trauma Level: Not applicable
- Total staffed beds at facility: 127
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs comfortable with autonomous practice in a fast-paced observation unit, with night shift and weekend availability. All licensure, certifications, and health documentation must be current and compliant prior to start.
