Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, New York
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN)
- Location: Rochester, New York
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit Assignment: Specific unit assigned closer to start date; may float between MedSurg units, ED boarders, ICU (stable patients)
- Shift Ratios:
- Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
- Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
- Patient Care Techs (PCTs): Available on all units for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
- Phlebotomy: In-house team performs peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 1 year in specialty
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- On-Call: Not required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Locals Accepted: No (local radius 75 miles)
- Pending License Accepted: No
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 1 week RTO allowed in contract
Certifications Required
- Mandatory: BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Additional Certifications (as required by unit):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units & OR)
- Other:
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Verification (Primary Source within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
Special Skills & Competencies
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- IV insulin protocols
- Feeding tube care and management
- Heparin protocols
- Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
- Chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Tracheostomy care/management
- Wound care/Wound Vac
- Epic charting system proficiency required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as required
- Color Blind Testing (one-time requirement)
Patient Diagnoses Commonly Encountered
- Infection
- Altered mental status
- Pain
- Increased level of care
Scheduling & Float
- Floating to other MedSurg units, ED boarders, ICU stable patients as needed
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
Uniform & Charting
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
- Charting: Epic
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 3 months of start, run monthly)
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
- Education verification from primary source (no hard copies)
- Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
- References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments verified)
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
State-Specific Requirements (New York)
- NYS Nurse Aide Registry (for LTC, ElderOne, Home Care, Hospice Care within 3 months of start)
- NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
- Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
- Sex Offender Registry Search (within 30 days of start)
- NY Medicaid Exclusion List check (within 3 months of start, run monthly)
