Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Macon, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Duties include embedding, microtomy, IHC staining, processing cytologies, manual special stains, manual cytology staining, embedding, filing of slides and/or blocks, recuts, equipment maintenance, sending blocks/slides to reference labs, and slide distribution to pathologists.
- Floating within facility and to a nearby hospital as needed.
- No weekend or on-call requirements.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Laboratory specialty.
- First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required).
Orientation & Compliance
- Maximum 7-day turnaround time for orientation (RTO).
- Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedules.
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for an 8-week assignment).
Holiday Work Expectations
- If one major holiday falls during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work it.
- If two major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work both.
- If three major holidays fall during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work two of them.
- Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
Required Certifications & Verifications
- State License: Must be licensed by the State of Georgia (if applicable).
- Background Check: Required within 30 days of start, including education verification.
- Education Verification: Verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending.
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start.
- TB Testing: PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months of start; negative chest x-ray required if prior positive TB test. TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer).
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination.
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31).
Competency & Other Requirements
- Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates; alternative assessment available if needed.
- Competency Exams: Required for nursing and allied health by the agency (not client).
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for RNs and LVNs by the agency.
Additional Notes
- Locals are accepted at the same rate.
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.
- Skills checklist and work history verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
- Two clinical references required by the agency (not client).
