Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Details

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Current, no online CPR accepted
  • EPIC experience required
  • ACLS may be required depending on unit
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Key Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in nursing specialty
• Current BLS certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Ability to work on telemetry and surgical floor
• Must be at least 21 years old (25 if transporting patients)
• Valid government-issued photo ID and driver’s license (if applicable)
• Background check: 7-year criminal history check within a year of start, updated annually
• Drug screening within last 12 months
• Physical exam within last 12 months
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • TB test or clearance
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or titers
  • Hepatitis B series or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or titer
  • Flu vaccination during flu season (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

Orientation and Competency Testing

• Pass/fail testing on EKG/medications during orientation
• Medication and competency exams required within one year of start
• Annual CEUs for stroke education depending on unit (e.g., Med Surg - 1 hour, ICU - 6 hours)
• Annual NIH Stroke Certification required for inpatient RNs (except OR and PICC)

Facility Policies and Documentation

• Photo for badge meeting specific requirements (recent, professional, neutral background)
• Confidentiality agreement, dress code, scrub color, safety brochure, drug-free policy acknowledgment
• Hand washing hygiene policy review
• TB questionnaire updated annually
• Virginia State Police Check required prior to start for certain positions
• References: 2 professional references required
• Employment application/resume required

Additional Notes

• Locals allowed at the same rate
• Fingerprinting requirements changing as of 7/15/2025 (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check to be used)
• CEU stroke education must be completed via Relias platform
• Facility will administer computer-based learning (CBL) during orientation with multiple attempts allowed

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and surgical floor experience who are comfortable with EPIC and meet the certification and health requirements listed above.
