Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Massena, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Unit Accepts 1st Time Travelers: No
- Locals Accepted: Must live more than 50 miles away
- Patient Diagnoses: COPD, Pneumonia, Non-specific abdominal pain, Cellulitis, Chest pain rule out
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:6
- Nights: 1:7
- Weekends: 1:8
Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience Required: Yes (unit does not accept first-time travelers)
- Required Skills:
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Peripheral line care/management
- Nasal cannula and oxygen administration (including oxygen tanks)
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all clinicians
- Epic: Required (electronic health record system)
Additional preferred or required certifications depending on specialty or unit may include:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for ER
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for L&D
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) for OB/L&D
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- 7-year criminal background check including all aliases
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification (degree associated with specialty)
- State nursing license verification (NY State online verification within 30 days)
- NURSYS verification for RN/LPN within 30 days
- Harassment prevention training certificate (annual requirement)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
- Photo for badge (passport-style, clear background)
- Facility-specific policy reviews (patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (with PAPR exemption if failed)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer or declination
- Varicella titer, vaccination, or documented history
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (specific panel required)
- Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
- References: 2 professional references required
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- 7-year work history verification
