Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Call Requirements: None
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Float Requirement: Mandatory float within scope as needed by the facility
• Time Off (RTO): Up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive; no holiday RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday; no RTO on weekends
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue
• Facility Level: Level 1 Trauma Center

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for Med/Surg RNs, must be updated annually
• Certifications Preferred:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only

Licensure & Location

• License: Must have active RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
• Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
• Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B series or declination
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)

Competency & Facility Specific Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required within 12 months of start)
• Color blind testing (required within 12 months of start)
• General competency exam (required within 12 months of start)
• Facility-specific rules of behavior and forms must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

• This is a mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float as needed within their scope
• No block scheduling available
• No call or holiday time off allowed
• Local candidates preferred but travel nurses are welcome
