Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Float Requirement: Mandatory float within scope as needed by the facility
- Time Off (RTO): Up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive; no holiday RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday; no RTO on weekends
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
- Facility Level: Level 1 Trauma Center
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification - required for Med/Surg RNs, must be updated annually
- Certifications Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
Licensure & Location
- License: Must have active RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B series or declination
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
Competency & Facility Specific Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required within 12 months of start)
- Color blind testing (required within 12 months of start)
- General competency exam (required within 12 months of start)
- Facility-specific rules of behavior and forms must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- This is a mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float as needed within their scope
- No block scheduling available
- No call or holiday time off allowed
- Local candidates preferred but travel nurses are welcome
