• Beds: 44 total, including 3 trauma bays
• Average Patients per Day: Approximately 135 (range 150-176)
• Shift Options:

  • 9a-9p

    Self-scheduling starting in July with flexibility
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: Only if no permanent staff available
• Call/Standby: No call requirement for travelers
• Floating: No floating outside the ER

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS

Experience Requirements

• Must understand Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system
• Travelers typically do not perform triage but must comprehend it
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year ER experience recommended

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Belly pain
• Chest pain (CP)
• Altered mental status
• High volume of behavioral health patients (on-site behavioral unit)
• Low acuity patients managed by Physician Assistants in fast track area

Unit Environment & Support Staff

• 4 behavioral/seclusion rooms, 6 intake rooms, 3 negative airflow rooms
• Security includes metal detector, video monitoring, and guard rounds
• Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), unit secretaries, and sitters (PCTs may assist with straight sticks and Foley catheter care)
• ED Physicians and Mid-level providers (PAs) manage low acuity patients primarily during 11a-11p shift
• Charge nurse available 24/7 for emergencies and 1:1 patient care

Equipment & Technology

• EMR: Epic
• Respiratory Therapy available for ABGs, vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and treatments
• ER staff perform EKGs; RT handles ventilators and ABGs
• Phlebotomy available 9a-2a; RNs may assist with blood draws during high volume

Orientation & Dress Code

• Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
• Scrub color: Black
• Scrub jackets allowed only if actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)

Additional Notes

• Level III trauma center with certified cath lab
• Door-to-EKG within 10 minutes, door-to-troponin protocols in place
• CT, diagnostic room, and stat lab located within ER
• May flex C pod as a hold area depending on patient volume
• Teamwork and stocking rooms expected
• Fast track area includes direct bedding and triage nurse during triage mode

This position is ideal for ER RNs with required certifications and experience who are looking for a 13-week travel assignment in a busy, well-supported emergency department with a variety of patient acuity levels.
