Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical) - Travel/Contract

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical RN
• Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (06:00 - 18:30)
• Average Daily Census: 35 patients
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Medical Surgical nursing
• First-timers: Not accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support) mandatory; ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Will float within scope as needed by department
• Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
• Licensure: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in application process with ETA to apply
• Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days onsite per week
• Scheduling: Open to block schedule requests (discuss with manager)

• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:

  • Accessing ports

  • Central line blood draws
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
• Medication Administration:

  • Heparin
  • Insulin
  • PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia)
• Respiratory Care:

  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Nasal cannula
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Oral suctioning
  • Oxygen face masks
  • Portable oxygen tank
  • Tracheostomy management
• Professional Knowledge:

  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and Wound Vac
• Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education verification (degree/transcript/diploma)
• State-specific criminal and offender registry searches as required by Illinois
• Primary source verification of certifications and licenses (including NURSYS)
• Competency exam for clinical candidates
• Badge photo (color, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
• Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
• Skills checklist required for clinical candidates

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
• Candidates must be prepared to work every other weekend and float as needed.
• Scheduling flexibility is available but must be discussed with management.
• Candidates without an active Illinois license must be in the application process with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) to apply.
• Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois for candidates without an IL license, with results uploaded prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with strong clinical skills in telemetry, renal care, IV therapy, respiratory management, and wound care, who are comfortable working in a Level II Trauma acute care hospital setting.
