Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for RN First Assist role. This position involves assisting in various surgical procedures with a focus on general, bariatric, orthopedic, pediatric, and gynecological surgeries.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Licensure: Illinois RN license must be in hand
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), CNOR, PALS preferred
• Technical Skills:

  • Epic experience required
  • Skills in Ambulatory OR, First Assist, General OR, Pediatric General OR, laparoscopic assisted cases, scrub bariatric surgery
  • Knowledge of infection control, wound management, universal protocol, radiation safety

Work Schedule

• Shift: 06:45 AM – 3:15 PM (may flex slightly)
• Typically one late shift per week (until 5 PM if 2 ORs running)
• One call shift per week
• One weekend call per month (Friday night, Saturday & Sunday)
• May be required to float to a sister hospital approximately 25 miles away

Additional Information

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 12 months
• Government-issued photo ID
• I9 and E-Verify documentation
• Residency declaration if working on a compact license in a different state
• Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification
• Fit testing for respirators onsite during orientation
• Negative drug screen within 12 months
• Physical exam within 1 year indicating good health
• Immunizations and titers including:

  • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (annual)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred
  • TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and checklists
• Completion of respirator fit test form and OSHA Respiratory Clearance prior to start
• Skills checklist and competency exams as required

Certifications & Training

• BLS required; ACLS, CNOR, PALS preferred
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if working in Behavioral Health or ER
• Additional training such as AbioMed Impella Online Training for ICU/CCU or Cath Lab if applicable

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced RN First Assist in Centralia, IL. The role requires strong surgical assisting skills, relevant certifications, and the ability to work flexible shifts including call and weekends. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply. Compliance with all licensing, background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific training is mandatory.
