Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Stepdown Unit)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), Days
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities as needed (agency staff floats first)

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers NOT accepted)
  • Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC only)
    • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
  • Preferred Certifications: NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS)

  • Holiday Rotation: Yes
  • Block Schedule: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Important Seasonal Note

  • Hurricane Season: June through November (peak in August and September)
  • Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Avoid confirming new or extension assignments during hurricane season if this is a concern.

Required Documentation & Compliance

Licensure & Background

  • Primary source verification of SC RN license required
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Annual background check covering last 7 years, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County, State, National Criminal checks
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • FACIS 3
    • International searches required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Work history verification for last 3 clinical employers (not required for this facility)

Certifications

  • ACLS and BLS certifications must be current (no expiration within 30 days of start)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit (confirm with team)
  • Chemo certification NOT required for this location
  • IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs (confirm if applicable)

Health & Immunizations

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (declinations NOT accepted)
  • COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete MUSC Vaccination Declination form

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 4 hours for Florence) prior to start
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge
  • Signed agreements including Assignment Acknowledgment, Code of Conduct, Employee Confidentiality, Systems User Agreement, HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement
  • Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing staff (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Radiation badge required only for specific departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology) — NOT required for this role

References & Evaluations

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually
