Job Opportunity: MedSurg 5S Float RN

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Specialty: MedSurg 5S with Ortho and MS/Tele experience preferred
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Float RN position covering Ortho units
• Ideal candidate has MedSurg/Telemetry experience plus low-level Ortho experience
• EPIC electronic medical record system required
• Must hold a West Virginia or compact nursing license

Requirements

• Specialty Experience: MedSurg/Telemetry with Ortho experience (minimum 4 years preferred based on specialty level)
• Certifications: BLS required
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Valid driver’s license (submission must include a copy)
• No false nails allowed

Work Environment & Details

• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on patient acuity
• Charge Nurse present on every unit (day charge nurse does not take patients; night charge nurse does)
• CNAs available on all units
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM)
• Floor-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Common patient diagnoses: CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Ortho, Oncology (chemo administered by permanent staff)
• Floating to Critical Care involves med/surg or stepdown patients
• Manager is traveler-friendly and open to requests for primarily working on 6N with block scheduling efforts

Clinical & Technical Details

• EMR: EPIC
• Telemetry: Phillips monitors; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
• Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7; manages CPAP, BiPAP, vents; RNs perform aerosols for non-vented patients and EKGs
• IV Team available house-wide until 10 PM weekdays and 3:30 PM weekends
• Pharmacy: In-house 24/7 with Accudose system
