MedSurg/Oncology 6S - RN Travel Nurse Opportunity

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: 6S Post-OP/Oncology/Telemetry
• Beds: 36 (all private rooms)
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5-6
• Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM; 7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for both day and night shifts)
• Holiday Requirement: Work holidays as part of rotation with permanent staff
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignment, night shift charge nurse does
• Nurse Aides: 3 CNAs on days and 3 on nights
• Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs required; no false nails allowed

Patient Population & Care

• General MedSurg patients and some post-op patients (lap chole, lap appy)
• Oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections
• Chemotherapy administration by permanent nurses (ONS/ONCC certification a plus)
• Frequent care of patients with chest tubes, including malignant patients discharged with PleurX chest tubes (experience with PleurX is a strong plus)
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Skills & Certifications

• Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is a plus
• Experience:

  • Must be comfortable caring for MedSurg and oncology patients with complex needs
  • Experience with chest tubes and oncology complications preferred
• Drip Management: Only Heparin drip titration; no cardiac drips
• Telemetry:

  • Phillips monitors used
  • Central monitor tech available, but RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips

Respiratory Equipment

• CPAP and BiPAP available on unit; respiratory therapists manage these
• Nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment or administer respiratory treatments

Floating & Scheduling

• Staff may float to any MedSurg or Telemetry unit
• No specific mention if travelers float first or ratio caps when floating

Experience Requirements
