Job Opportunity: Medsurg Tele Float - 93

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Float pool includes all inpatient units based on competency: ICU, Step-down, Medical/Surgical
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Med/Surg: 1:6
  • Step-down: 1:4 or 1:5
  • ICU: 1-2 nurses per 3 patients
• Common patient types: Cardiac, orthopedic, neurological, surgical, and medical patients (varies by unit)
• Respiratory therapy equipment: CPAP and BiPAP available on all units; ventilators in ICU; chronic trach vents may be in step-down
• Telemetry: Yes, with monitor techs; CVU reads own strips
• Charge nurse coverage: Free charge on day shift (Mon-Fri); house supervisor available 24/7
• Nurse aides available on units

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)

Experience & Skills

• Med/Surg nursing background required
• Step-down experience preferred
• RNs must be able to titrate drips in step-down areas only
• Common titratable or set-rate drips include: Heparin, Cardizem, Nitro, Cardene, Insulin, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Activase, Esmolol, Lidocaine, Labetalol, Primacor, Procainamide, Aggrastat, Verapamil

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts:

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: As needed
• No call required; standby may be required if census is low
• Unit assignments given daily by staffing office via phone
• Orientation: 3-4 shifts specific to unit/department
• Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs
